come across a few things I normally wouldn't get the chance to. Some of them have been artists and photographers. These two are most certainly the pick of the bunch.

http://www.thomasdoyle.net/
Deeply sad but also comedic works. It has been a feature of my life for years and never truly goes away.

I have a large bedroom and most things have a place, music CDs by the window, records in the box, books on the shelf, nick-nacks in the draws but this stuff doesn't. It might be newspaper supplements, small electrical goods, plastic wallets, college works, letters, bank statements. It just maintains a transitional life on my chair at night and on my bed in the day.

Sometimes I sort it out and then for one day it may be gone but it grows again, quickly.

London

London, originally uploaded by adamjinj.

Ah well I'm going to London on the day before my big exam day since my mother has decided to be busy every other day. Norwich cathedral is just plain stunning. Breathtakingly inspiring. How come is it that these places are for Christians? I enjoy them as much as the next man yet I'm a staunch atheist. I've always been fascinated by news design and the Newseum is always a source of interest. There are several newspapers in the world that look just plain awesome:

Hampton Roads, VA USA
I really love this design, very yoof-orientated. More magazine than newspaper.

Lisbon, Portugal
Obviously Guardian-inspired but pretty well executed.

Amsterdam, Netherlands
I love the date in the headline, very nice touch. front cover looks lovely and swishy.

Minneapolis, MN USA
A rare example of a typically American design looking good, modern and simple.

Mexico City, Mexico
Very nice use of colour and clear headlining. I can't hear anything but people's body language and hand movements, their eye contact and clothing fascinate me. Why is he motioning like a tube? What the heck is he talking about? Is she waving at me? Why don't they want to look at each other?

Every single person tells a story, every nod and view and look. I smile at someone as they walk past and they nod back, a boy winks at a girl. A teacher taps on the shoulder of a student and then spills a little bit of her coffee. It's a serious problem, every new band or artist I hear I think they are going to be huge this time next year. Either I have great taste in music or I just really like everyone. If you want my reccomendations for some amazing artists in the Norwich area youv'e got Francis and Louis, Rory Hill, Alex Carson, The Kabeedies. They are all pretty good. The Norwich scene is really good at the moment so if you get a chance to pop over here you should have a look.

On another note Auschwitz was horrific. I might make a post on it later but I just think people should read up about it.

Read it.

Guardian and Starbucks, originally uploaded by adamjinj.

How to Read your Saturday Guardian.

This one's an easy one.

1. Read "The Hard Sell", "All Ears" and "Home Clubber" in The Guide
2. Read "1000 Tiny Plays about England" in the Magazine
3. Browse the Weekend magazine, especially the photograph competition and Space sections.
4. Throw away the Sport section
5. Look at the massive photo in the centre pages of the Guardian
6. Read the "Good To Meet You" column.
7. Read the leaders in the paper.
8. Read the smaller stories.
9. Read "Living With Teenagers" in Family
10. Peruse the Review and Travel sections for interesting stories.
11. Throw away Money and Work
12. Read the Saturday section of the main paper.
13. Recycle all but The Guide and Weekend.
14. Use The Guide for TV/Radio lisitings
15. Use Weekend for collages or further reading

I love The Guardian.

Best done in a Starbucks with a Venti Peppermint Latté and a Rocky Road.
<div It's historically important, it's logistically important and its surrounded by flatness. Really it should be a nice cultural town like St Ives or Newcastle or even Kings Lynn. It's not. It's a Liverpudlian's tourist dream, full of people in baseball caps with tans from their last holiday to Benidorm.

God how I hate this culture. Going on holiday to places because they are similar to the place you come from. Why the fuck would you ever visit Benidorm? Or Malaga? Or the Costa? It's just union flags, fish and chips and crappy hotels. You might as well just stay in the UK. Ok well we might not have the weather but it's alot more British if that's what you look for in a holiday.

Wouldn't it be nice if Great Yarmouth was a nice little town with galleries, independent shops, museums about people and places where I could buy antique books or retro sunglasses. It's just got burgers and charity shops and Poundstretcher.

Depressing.

Ah well there is always Norwich. You see a bleakness and an emptiness return to the streets which the sun takes away.

Old people come out in long coats with faux fur trim and scarves, street sweepers and office workers look glum and depressed and you are taken back to the streets of a small iron-bauxite mining town in 1987 USSR. It is a very odd feeling. I love it though, it changes your whole view on life until you thank your stars that you were born in a democratic country in 1991 after the Cold War.

Now I look outside and see the mist has gone and that normality has returned. Then I am walking past Lowestoft Station and I wonder how much it is for a return to Ipswich from here. £7.50. Hm I can stretch to that. So I go. To Ipswich. Don't know why I just fancy it, after a two hour train journey I am there and it is nice, I have some coffee and then I come home.

It cost me a bit of money but I had fun. Im sure most 16 year olds aren't impulsive like this. Im sure its probably a bad thing but what the dickens.

Im determined to loose weight at the moment. Im on a crisps and chocolate-free diet and Im really looking forward to starting going to the gym with Emma. This is an important time in my life and I don't want to be obese for the rest of it.

3am Walkabout

Roundabout, originally uploaded by adamjinj.

3am truly is the best time to be out and about with a camera and a tripod, if you look at the latest photos on my Flickr account you'll see why.

Spot the Adam in the shot above.

Mothers don't read Blogs

My mother googled my name, which is always a mine field and she found my blog and my MySpace. Why?

Nosiness? Probably. Surely it is wrong for your mother to find your blog, its not got anything bad on it or anything incriminating but it feels like an invasion of privacy, even worse, your MySpace. It's your little mother-free place where swearing is allowed and in-jokes don't seem slightly pathetic. Now she's found it and my peace is shattered, no doubt she will read this post and probably tell me about it later and take the piss. I just think people over 40 should always be computer iliterate, apparently Sara's mum added her as a friend on Facebook, that would scare the living daylights out of me. Mum's don't have Facebooks. Well my law teacher does but I dont think she has kids.

Anyway it's Non-Specific Festive Gift Giving Day soon which is good news because Im fed up with it. "I really should be doing revision" but mine is so bad right now. I do quite alot of revision as a matter of fact but right now I just need to relax but I keep getting fucking revision guilt. I can't even sit here and write this without thinking I should be revising pressure groups or population distrbution in China or statute law or empiricism. Its got to a stage where I revise on the bus and Im actually creating revision MP3s for my self.

Actually revision MP3s are a really good idea, if you need to remember something complex or theoretical then record yourself saying it and add a beat to it to create a revision MP3.

Just my two cents.

A little touch of home.

I would love to have a locker at college, I really would. So I had around 5 hours of free time at college today. Managed to put most of it to good use.

Discovered the hat hierachy at Somerfield café whereby people who have better jobs have different hats. The manager has green hats, the till staff have purple hats and the cleaner has a yellow hat. I thought this was one of the funniest things I think Ive ever seen, especially since they weren't the sharpest knives in the draw and they didn't really seem to know what they were doing. After this I bought a pressie for my mum's birthday tomorrow, a baugette and some salad cream.

We got back to college and I sat in the corridor and disected my baugette with my stolen knife from Somerfield café and then made myself a salad cream baugette at a cost of around 40p (bargin). Many hysterical moments ensued which wouldnt be funny out of context. Then we had tutor. Then I sat in the library and met Laura, who rocks, and Laura's friends, Harrison and James (tihp).

I love college.
I make more friends by the day.
I think Im popular :)
Ive made it.

365/3 Emms Two

365/3 Emms Two, originally uploaded by adamjinj.

Another pretty average day except it is a Tuesday so it means that we have a long, long lunch break. We decided to go to the Copper Kettle in the High Street which is quite a sweet little café and I had a mushroom and cheese omelette.

I spent the rest of lunch sat in the library drawing little cartoons and discussing what kind of magazines we like. I have amazing friends, they rock, I am so happy with my life at the moment.

Went to a Green Party meeting as well which was good, managed to get a bit more involved and said Id write a couple of bits for the newsletter and also help design it, Im thinking of the name greensheet but not entirley sure. I woke up late, as is per usual, and managed to get into my geography lesson with around 40 mins left.

I realised at break that my shoe has a massive hole in and then promptly stood in a puddle rendering my foot cold and wet, in Philsophy we read Descarte's First Meditation and I was pleasently suprised by the fact it is only 4 pages long and very simple to understand, not so happy to learn that the essay I thought had to be in on Thursday was infact due tomorrow.

By lunch I was a bit down and it was freezing outside, sat with Swalker and Kathy and played twenty questions, suprising it took nearly 40 questions to get Hitler but only 6 to get Oscar the Grouch.

Had form time in which we discussed the smoking ban and healthy living in general, we also discussed the merits of weighing people before they get on airplanes in order to reduce excess baggage charges.

Managed to have a free period last and stood at the bus stop with Steph, she is going to see Kate Nash tonight, which I am incredibly jealous about and apparently her friend was late. Got on the bus but had to get off a stop early because it was getting too full, managed to walk home to find that mum had gone out.

I ordered some new Vans online to fit my size 14 feet so they should be here in two days, then I started dropping hints about how much I wanted a record player, looked through my mum's old singles, she had such bad taste. Managed to decide the need for a new bed outweighed the need for a record player and so my Xmas present was decided. Veggie lasange for tea again.

Time to get on with this philosophy essay now.

Living alone ... what an anti-climax

"Oh yay, my family will be away for a week, I can't wait to have the house ot myself". Im perfectly happy living in my cocoon of 16-year old bliss. Come back mum! They've gone ice skating today an then they are going to have a roast. Ive got a ready meal and then I might take the dog for a walk to the marshes.

I dont want to move out, ever. I was supposed to be working but I have quite my job at McDonalds. Evil company, evil working conditions, very low pay and long hours. The whole time I was working in that shit-hole I kept thinking about these mis-shaped pieces of chicken I was bunging into boxes. They didnt look like chickens, I expect alot of people didnt make a direct connection between the cute little chicken and the order on the screen for a 6-bit nugget box.

This is mainly why I have decided to go on a veggie test-run. I was supposed to be doing a vegan test run but coooome on that is hard. Its not about animal cruelty because I already have enough worthy acronyms on my plate without PETA or the RSPCA. Its about society's attempt to distance itself from the food they eat. When I was in Tesco I picked up a packet of mince and a cottage pie ready meal and just thought, this ain't animals. So instead Im now eating innocent carrots, broccoli, cheese & leek sausages and meat-substitue bolognaise. Its only for the week but today hasn't been too bad so I might stick at it for .. ever.

Also just an update since the last time I talked: loooked for job, dad died, funeral, family at wake, got interview, got job, hated job, quit job, became truthful with friends, chatted to someone i havent for ages, sent some letters, bought iPod, sold electric bike, tried to sell motor-scooter, went to solicitor, got EMA, got ready for college, went to BBQs, got GCSE results, got happy about GCSE results, had a results party, got left homealone, went shopping, invited friends around for a swaré tomorrow. Sooo .. pretty busy this August really.

Blog.
Adam.

----------------
Now playing: Annie Lennox - Walking on Broken Glass
via FoxyTunes

Coffee Culture

Are you a proud member of the coffee culture or do you shun it like it is a rabid donkey? Well me, myself, I have to say, I am a proud member of coffee culture. You can often find me in a Starbucks with a battered copy of "Catcher in the Rye" in the 1983 Penguins Classic cover. I do like a good old Mocha (grande, hold the cream, soya milk and an extra shot of espresso) and I do love to sit in a coffee shop. They make them feel so lovely as if it was your own living room. And they don't make you feel uncomfortable after being sat there for more than 20 minutes without spending another £5 on something. You can sit for hours reading, a little pleasent-smelling oasis in the scary jungle of ... urmm . Norwich. Ok, over exaggeration I know but still.

But does coffee culture just contain itself in Starbucks or Costa or does it expand to fashion, art and literature. Is a new breed of person born when they enter the hallowed doors below the two-finned mermaid (cough). Do they all wear a t-shirt underneath a suit jacket? Are they all able to talk knowlegably about the films of Claude Berri? No, of course not, that would be silly. But some of them can. And it is these people who are the founders of today's coffee culture.

I love it

Neuvau Etiquette

When a new culture arrives it brings with it a number of changes. Style, music, media. But above all of these it brings with it a new etiquette. These days mobile phones, iPods, Blackberries, laptops, blogs, email and much more have taken over our day to day lives. I love it, thank fuck for the iGeneration and thank fuck Im a member of it. But with this comes the new set of codes and rules. For example; your phone rings in the middle of an informal conversation with a friend; what's more important friend or phone? You send an insulting email to the wrong person; do you apologise or make up excuses? You think your MP3 player is too loud on a bus; do you turn it down or leave it? I think it is always important to take the route of best manners. Leave the phone, apologise and turn it down. Of course this isn't always what other people say as we see with bluetooth headsets (tossers) and loud music on your phone (absolute tossers).

So when a new etiquette arrives should someone try and write a rulebook. Surely not. We pick it up as it goes along but if people are going to abuse the technology and let it get in the way of common manners then maybe we, as ordinary folk, should intervene. But intervene I don't mean actually talk to them; thats craaaazy! I mean tut or raise your eyebrows.

Try it; next time someone is loud on a bus or when someone gets out of a mahoosive 4x4 roll your eyes. The best way to make somone feel small.

Why I Love Starkey

Surely he is the only current TV presenter who doesn't try to soften the facts or make them 'fun'. His powerful voice and brilliantly produced programs delight me. 'Monarchy' is probably one of the best shows Ive watched recently. Mixed with cut scenes, shots of Starkey walking through buildings and historical drawings and illustrations his documentaries feel very 'pure', like television should be. Ahh and even better Ive just found out through Wikipedia he is gay and a gay rights campaigner. He is also an atheist. I just like this man more and more. I would love to have dinner with him one day.

What I'm trying to say is that British Television needs more people like Starkey and Kevin McCloud (Grand Designs). Straight talking and serious. TV these days is too much about fun which is all fine and dandy most of the time but watching a program like Monarchy or Elizabeth.

Customer Service

A vital part of a customer's experience whilst dealing with a company is customer service and it is often this over the quality of the product that is a major talking point. For example when asking about possible ISPs the other day I was told that both BT and TalkTalk were bad providers because they kept people on hold for too long and I think that is the most important point. Id say that my tolerance for being kept on hold is 30 secs with music and maybe 2 mins without. Virgin are brilliant in my opion for customer service, calls are answered straight away and by a real person (after going through a menu) and then they are helpful and friendly. I now reccomend both Virgin Media and Virgin Mobile to anyone looking for a good provider and one with excellent customer service. Id also like to give an honourable mention to Nationwide who let me get straight through to my branch and to a friendly member of staff, their in-bank customer service is good too.

Why don't companies, especially larger ones, realise that shipping out and relocating to India/Pakistan and then putting people on hold to awful music for ridiculous ammounts of time is not the way to gain customers. Everyone hates it and its about time to sort it out and stay British and employ more staff even at the extra cost its worth it.

Have Faith in No Faith

I am an atheist through and through and furthermore I am a memeber of a group called The Brights who promote a naturalistic world view. Basically there is no god and that everything can have a basis in science which, to me, seems like a purely logical conclusion to come to. We can't prove or disprove the existance of a god but I can't prove or disprove that the man who is staring at me from his window right now isnt going to come over here and kill me with an axe. I am not locking my door.

Ok, not the greatest analogy but you get the idea. If you cant prove something exists but you can provide logical reasons why it doesnt then Id feel less inclined to belive it.

The thing that does annoy me about the UK, contrary to my previous post some things do annoy me about it, is out governments comittment to religion. Religious Education in schools is a great way to teach about equality but when I was younger I was being taught creationism and I was watching very persuesive videos about christianity. Even 'Jospeh and the Techniclour Dreamcoat"; a great musical, is Christian propoganda and promotes their faith. There is no "Darwin and his Amazing Voyage" musical to promote the other side so technically RSE presents a very biased view in schools. Overall I think that schools should be a secular place. The veil should not be banned as it is part of a culture as well as a religion. The teaching of equality as opposed to the teaching of religion should be encouraged and more than anything Faith Schools should be abolished or funding stopped.

Love UK

I don't know, maybe its just me, but why does no-one love the UK any more. I know I do, I wouldnt swap this place for anything, I cant imagine living in America, Russia or Europe. The weather is brillaint, its not too hot like Texas and its not too cold like Ontario. The accent is world-recognised as suddenly shooting you up the social ladder; unless your in the middle-east in which case it might be shooting you up the wall. And even if our health service isnt as good as Switzerland or Norway it is free (kinda) and it is better than Turkmenistan. I cant find any fault with our education system, worked on me. I think the attitude of most of the people that live here is great and, I know Im going to be stereotyping a whole nation but what the heck, and 10x better than some horrid yank or a rude German.

Overall I just think people should learn to love the UK, love where they live. I had two random chavs shout "Oi ginge" at me. Of course; being me; I didnt reply and just kept walking but it made me very embarassed. It was a public place and they said it very loud. Everyone looks at you like some kind of outcast and this happens twice, three times a day. It is totally unfair. Why should my hair colour make any difference to what goes on?

They didnt know me, theyve never met me. Yet they still feel obliged to shout abuse at me in the middle of a bus station. This kind of shit used to happen in the 40s to black people and in the 80s to gay people. This kind of thing happened in Nazi Germany to the Jews and by now your thinking "well its not that fucking bad". Well Im afraid it fucking is. Gingers get the piss taken every single time. Take Catherine Tate's sketch show. She makes loads of gingerist jokes in her Russet Lodge sketches and yet she can get people to come on and take part. Many of us gingers just take this in our stride, like I have done for years but this kind of shit needs to stop. It needs to stop now.

Gingerism is discrimination. The same as racism, xenophobia, homophobia or anti-semitism.

My hair is something I love. I should not be ashamed of having lovely ginger hair. It is orange and I think it is beautiful. Being ginger makes me a minority. One that is neglected and anti-gingerism is just a part of society. Stop it now is what I say.

If you still think it is a joke dye your hair ginger, go to a foreign town and see what happens.

Mail-Watch

I have just discovered a new website which has gone straight into my favourites. Anyone that knows me will know how much I utterly dispise The Daily Mail, The Express, The Sun, The Mirror, The Star and The Sport. Im also pretty resentuful towards The Telegraph but I can handle that. I have found a great website called Mail-Watch (http://bigdaddymerk.co.uk/mailwatchnew/) which is basically just people commenting on the front cover of The Mail and The Express with such great headlines as; "The PC Brigade are ruining christmas", "The new Hospital Bhurka" and "Diana: Is she really dead?"

Death's Stigma

I was reading an article in The Guardian yesterday by Germaine Greer, in it she described how the National Portrait Gallery had replaced her photograph with that of Steve Erwin because she offended his memory. She was interviewed, again in The Guardian, earlier in 2006 about how she felt about the death of Erwin. She said she wasnt upset and didnt think that it was a great loss. Well I totally agree. He was famous, yeah, but I mean he was alot less famous before his death and how is it that I only hear about all his good deeds after he's passed away. Why is it such an offence to blemish someone's memory anway?

It seems that Diana has only turned into the angel she is after her death, she was seen as the outcast the months before and her public popularity was going down. Ditto with Robin Cook and James Brown. I mean you can even see this with people at funerals and in obituaries, anyone that dies is automatically elevated to some kind of brilliant status. Some hideous, rude chav that died in a car crash now 'meant well' and was a 'kind and considerate' person. No he wasn't; he was an ASBO-wealding, chain-wearing piece of lowlife who died. So maybe we should question why death does hold such a stigma. Death isnt something to be afraid of so why should it be so glorified.

Anyway that's all I can think of now to say and Ive had my rant so Im back to surfing websites and listening to the website because I seem to be vomiting alot at the moment. Growing up can be a harsh business. Especially if you were born (or became) fat, ginger, spotty, bad-sighted, achedemic and gay. I mean first off youve got to deal with getting through early childhood. For chirsts sake do they not hear you when you scream. Trying to get a bottle is harder than getting hold of gold bullion at times. Then there is pre-adolsence which is probably the blissful period between speaking and puberty where the world is simple and small. Then it hits you with a horrible masquarade of pubic hair and spots right in the face. Puberty. Possibly the most frightening word to any 12 or 13 year old in the country when they are told about all the nasty things in that solitary sex education lesson with your maths teacher. Then on top of that there are the rumors from your friends and all the things youve heard online or from your parents. Its not easy being young.
The final stage of being a 'kid' is where I am. Almost post-pubescent but not quite. You feel like your so close to the finnishing line. Youve had all the nasty bits; the mood swings have gone, the hair is there to stay and the voice will be like that for ever. But then it hits you, youve still got college and school before you can do adult things like worrying about tax returns, petrol prices and the 'situation in the middle east'. Not easy.

God! Roll on 18!

Oh and if you do find time between your busy schedule of squeezing spots and realizing new hairs please visit my friend James' new bog @ http://avote4james.blogspot.com/

Carbon Footprints, Podcasting .. of course nan!

It may be 2007, nearly, but you will still be hardpressed to find a person over 60 that could tell you what an emo, podcast or iPod is or how big their carbon footprint is but ever since my nan has got broadband she seems to know. Ice Skating is a scary experience, especially when you are in a foreign town (Guildford) surrounded by better looking, fitter teenagers who can skate about 20x better than you.

It was actually great fun although for some reason I could only skate with one leg, my left leg wouldn't lift up from the ice but I could go quite fast, turn and stop on my right leg despite some bratty, blonde ten year-old trying to knock me over in his personalised and comfy skates. My feet had never hurt so much, size 13 skates are soo small there and all of my considerable weight was balanced on two small blades.

Weather looks horrible in Surrey, well I say horrible, I like rain and wind so its good for me but horrible for everyone else. I suppose in traditional fashion this is the point which I should start talking about my resolutions and hopes for 2007 but I just want to pass my GCSEs and get into ENSF.

Have a great new year all!

Why Im going to be away

Couple of reasons to begin with:
1. Since we got flooded I have been stealing my neighbours wireless internet when I went back to the house but when they moved out so did their internet and there is no toilet at the house
2. When I try to go on my blog at school it is blocked for containing sexual words - is "homosexual" really grounds for a blocking - so I really dont want to loose my internet privilages.
3. Over the next couple of days I am going to be visitng my family in Surrey which is going to be fun but they are plebs down south and they dont have any internet unless I can steal some off their neighbours since I am taking my laptop.
4. If I go to an internet café, which I am now, I am subject to randy Turks making out on their webcams and the annoying American bloke who is sitting over there talking about how great he is on guitar and how "you can hear him coming from Sainsburys and its not even turned off". Get with it, techno music pumping from your £39.99, poor quality mobile phones is sooooo 2004. MP3 players are the best invention ... ever. I love the things and I seriously don't know what Id do without mine for my two hour commute to school but why substitute the joy of headphones and complete exclusion from the world around you, especially required on buses round here. I was on the bus today, however, and - what a suprise - there was a group of chavs sitting at the front of the top deck with their mobile phones on loduly playing some obnoxious technoshite.

I also heard on the news recently about people that are trying to do someting about it, I think it was on Look East so it would have been locally. Im off to the BBC to try and find something. Back in a sec ............................. oh nope, it wasn't local, it was Ken Livingstone [link]. Thats fine and dandy and I am certainly in favour of direct action, however, direct action sanctioned by the government kinda takes the fun out of it. Its not a big thing designed by a bloke in his basement its probably had a risk assesment done on it. How wossy. I still think it's a good idea though. I would definetly do it if more people were willing.

Ahhh more enviromental issues concerning public transport. I hate First. I havent had much experience with other bus companies but they always seem so much better than the rubbish we get here. It always used to be so much better. Buses are either late, dirty, non-existant, early, cold, wet or all of the above. They are horrid. No wonder cars are so popular. Surely architects put too much effort into the tops of buildings if no-one ever looks up off the ground. Next time your in the centre of whichever town or city your from take some time to look up, look at cornices, balconies, windows and the like. Is the McDonalds art-deco or mock-georgian, the HMV store post-modern or brutalist. I know for a fact that some of the architecture here in my home town, Great Yarmouth, is very under-appreciated. McDonalds is, in fact, a georgous building and the Prism Leisure building is beautifully art-deco. Youd never notice these things from street level though.

So why not?

Look up for a change!

Home & Tesco

Fantastic news, Im out of foster care. I put on a huff this morning and got myself out. I am thus in a very good mood. But what is home? Home, for me, is where Im sure I can come back, get a meal, a smile and relax. It is not somewhere where you feel constantly at risk or unhappy. Home is your base, your centre. Its where you live but so much more. I think it is vitally important for all people to have a home which is why I feel so sorry for people who don't have a choice, people in hospital and, obviously, people on the street. What is it like for them when they dont have somewhere they can go? All they have is themselves. This is why we should all think ourselves lucky to live the way we do.

On another note, a slightly less depressing and thoughtful one, I love Tesco. Ok, fair enough its a big evil company that is destorying the planet and normally I would hate that but Tesco is fantastic. I went there today and just marvelled in society's evolution. 50 years ago a supermarket was something strange and big, now it is an everyday object, something which we can take for granted. It was bound to happen, it is somewhere you can buy everything. We had markets, you could buy everything there, then people begun to start up buthcers, bakers and candlestick makers and so the market evolved into the high street and now the high street is once again evolving into the hypermarket. It is a natural evolution.

Climate & Expansion

The climate is changing, and we all know that. What are we going to do about it though? Fuss about making new laws and passing them through slowly and laboreuosly and coming out with a much reduced bill? Or taking this all a bit more personally. We should all be doing our bit to curve the attrocious pollution of this planet by companies like Exxon Mobil and the like. Exxon Mobil (Esso) still deny the existance of a link between carbon emissions and climate change. At least some oil companies seem to be trying a bit harder, even if it is a PR stunt. David Milliband is possibly the best enviroment minister the UK has ever had, but, he is no use if people keep blocking or reducing his bills in parliament. We already know the world economy is going to suffer the affects of global warming so isn't it about time we acted on this by making businesses pay today. I wouldnt mind paying bigger taxes if I was reassured that the proceeds would be going to protect the enviroment.

Great Yarmouth is expanding. The Outer Harbor, Gapton Hall, the new Market Gates. The list can go on. Its all well and good but Im sure that planners in this town have no sense of concequence. When you build a roundabout that slows down traffic
Hindsight is always twenty-twenty. . - Billy Wilderthen two massive retail parks, three drive-in restraunts and a Tesco Extra ontop of that you have to learn that maybe it wasnt such a good idea. It doesnt even appear they have any sense of hindsight because a Pizza Hut and something else is being built their to add to the mayhem. Also, the A47, the only way out of Yarmouth, is clogged with traffic and dying, they won't dual it yet they want to build a massive port and expand the town.

Stereotypes & Cambridge

I am totally fed up with being treated like a criminal for being 15. I don't own a hoodie, a knife or a copy of Nuts so why treat me like a piece of shit on the end of your foot? Me and my friends get followed around shops by security guards, given dirty looks by pensioners and shunned by most adults. If I help an elderly person, which I sometimes do, by offering them a hand or an umbrella its as if the world is just about to collapse in. I hope this has taught you kids a lesson: kids never learn. - Matt GroeningA teenager with a consience! Then when you do act civilised no-one belives who you are, you have to prove it! I have never stolen anything, hurt anyone or vandalised something in my life, but, because Im 15, it is automatically assumed that I fall into the category of kids which do those kind of things. Fact is, most people are as fed up with 'chav culture' as we are.

Ah, on a lighter note, Im going to Cambridge tommorrow. I cannot wait. A photographers dream I tell ye. I love Cambridge but the last time I went it was ruined by my whinging sister and her boredom but this time Im really hoping to enjoy it more. When I go to the newsagents I look at the pile of newspapers that sit under the desk and my eyes flash by the crap of the red top tabloids, past the black top A good newspaper, I suppose, is a nation talking to itself. - Authur Miller tabloids with a tut and then I settle on the four quality newspapers which exist normally. The Telegraph, The Times, The Independent and The Guardian. I discount the Telegraph and Times because they look like they are for middle-aged and over conservatives so Im left with my two favourite papers. The Independent is good for a good read and freebies. Its got style as well as good journalism and it's compact form means that its handy to read.

The best is, of course, The Guardian. Its like a breath of fresh air for the newspaper industry. When I pick it up I see its snappy design with it's blue header and cool fonts and graphics. I look inside and I always read my favourite Today on the Web section which features opinions from the blogs and then I work my way through the sexily designed pages to find articles that interest me. In the centre pages is the Eyewitness section which features a large picture which goes straight up on my wall. For all its design and modernism it is underlined by great journalism and honest writing. Yet even as you read it's articles you feel your a bit of an anarchist because because of the Comment and Debate section which features headlines like "The Disneyfication of War" and articles condeming middle english elite.

Basically what Im trying to say is, go out, buy it, read it, and become addicted to the best newspaper in the world. Even if it is in Berliner format and a bit hard to read it's worth battling against the wind for.

A final note to a long post, visit my new YouTube video from when I went to Portsmouth

Coursework & Care

Yes, thats right people, I have finally got down to doing my looooong overdue Chemistry and Biology coursework, nearly finnished now actually. I knew the thought they had got rid of me. As soon as I got back they have both had a go at me. Salt had a go about me complaining about money at my review which, obviously, made me feel incredibly uncomfortable because he really could have just read it off the minutes and I really couldnt remember what I said. Pepper had a go at me about plasters or something. I forgot to ask for some more when I was at Ian and Kerris so she had to get me some. What a shame. She thought she might have saved some money, she didnt. Honestly, Im supposed to be getting £100-odd a month, at the moment Im getting £20. I wonder where the rest is going? Its because Im going to be barbequed for being such a lazy bum. I still have my chemistry coursework to do. I have given up on Getvolsden and Biology and am fully willing to fail that now. I also cant find the folder with my Pride and Prejudice essay in it. Luckily it is just 2 days before half term so its not as bad as it could be.

In other news things have been happening around the world that concern people more than my chemistry coursework and what Mr Simmons is going to do to me. Oh fuck! One minute. My playlist on WMP has now decided to include the Sugarbabes. Gotta change that. Ahh thats better, bit of e.l.o. Anyway where was I. Ahh yes. Other stuff. This Post Office business has really been getting up my goat. If people are so desperate to save their post office why dont they do what has been proven and diversify. Add an internet café or a CLIP to bring in customers as well as the post office. That way it stays open and provides more facilities for the community. Oh well, probably, like all things in life, a million and one reasons why it can't or won't happen.

Work?

Today was the start of work experience for me and all of those in the top year of my school. The only problem is that there is nothing to do. And I dont just mean there is nothing to do for the work experience kid. There is nothing to do for the employees either. They just chat and go on the internet. They get in at 9am and by 11am they finnally get down to work. By 1pm they have finnished and they piss about til 5. If only all work was this easy. I don't know to be quite honest with you. It seems like when I see people wearing these on TV or in public you expect them to have a heavy asian accent and be quite old but the fact is that most of these people are young, British muslims. I, personally, could feel quite intimidated by it, but that may be because I am from Norfolk and there don't really seem to be any muslims here. I think Jack Straw has a point but I also think that what he said has been taking out of context. He simply wanted women to be able to talk to him face to face. No-one said it should be banned, no-one said it is 'offensive', he just suggested it might be polite to take it off. He didnt order them to either. They have been replaced with windows, surfers, kites and the Moon. Something which previously you might of thought didn't have much relevance but they can now all be connected with the theme "circles". It makes a nice change but you do have to wonder when people will be fed up of kite fliers and hippos. At least they have good music.

Welcome to TeenGreen

This is the blog of me, a 15 year old stuck in the middle of a confusing world of growing up, politics, people, chavs, homosexuality, views, commercialisation, music, peer pressure, drugs, coursework and further education.
